Gyan vani - Educational Radio channel : 105.4 FM
Launched in Nov, 2001, Gyan Vani is an educational FM Radio Channel, operating though several FM stations from various places in the country. Presently 26 FM stations are operational. This is a unique ‘interactive mode’ for enhancing and supplementing the learning process by reaching the learners through a low cost popular mass medium.
Gyan Vani stations operate as ‘media cooperative’ with the day-to-day programmers being contributed by various educational institutions, NGOs, government and semi-government organizations, UN agencies, Ministries such as Agriculture, Environment, Health, Women and Child Welfare, Science & Technology, etc. besides National level Institutions such as NCERT, NIOS and State Open Universities. It is a joint venture of Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of information & Broadcasting, Prasar Bharti and IGNOU being nodal agency.
Gyan Vani, Ahmedabad was launched on 25th April’06 catering through 6 kV transmitters on 105.4 MHz in the 60 km radius circle between 6.00 am to 10.00 am and 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm addressing the local educational, developmental and socio-cultural requirements. The flavor of the channel is by and large local, and the medium is English, Hindi or language of the region. Renowned experts, drawn usually from the region, make the Presentations.
Radio transmits knowledge and information locked up in written text and there fore, easily accessible to a larger mass that communicates with emotion and expression and provide compressed information. The written matter is dead but spoken word has its sound energy which communicates effectively. Radio has wide coverage, cheep and easy to carry / portable, teaches music and language, helps slow learners having poor light.
Educational Radio can supplement the print material. It could be listened while attending other job, even during drive time, so it saves time.
